Oral phentolamine for treatment of ventricular premature contractions.
نویسندگان
چکیده
Phentolamine was administered orally to 21 patients with persistent ventricular premature contractwons. In I5 patients the ventricular premature contractions were abolished, while in 5 a conspicuous decrease in their frequency was observed. The effective dose of phentolamine was either 50 or 75 mg. administered 4 times a day in all but 2 of the patients. The maximum antiarrhythmic effect was seen in 2 or 3 days in the majority ofpatients. Thefavourable antiarrhythmic effects persisted in all of the successfully treated patients when they were treated for an additional week. The drug produced transient gastrointestinal symptoms in 3 patients. Hypotension was not observed. These studies indicate that phentolamine warrants further study as an antiarrhythmic agent.

Premature ventricular contractions associated with isotretinoin use*
Isotretinoin has been considered a unique drug for acne treatment. However, it is associated with numerous adverse effects. Isotretinoin can trigger premature ventricular contractions. This report describes a 33-year-old-woman who presented with palpitations for 1 week while undergoing 1-month isotretinoin treatment for mild-moderate facial acne. An electrocardiogram and Holter monitoring showe...
متن کاملAssociation between cytokines and two circulating micro-RNAs and development of premature ventricular contractions-induced cardiomyopathy
Objective(s): Recent progress in understanding the pathogenesis of premature ventricular contraction (PVC)-induced cardiomyopathy (PIC) has suggested a key role for inflammation. The aim of this study was to evaluate the expression of messenger RNAs (mRNAs) and the protein production of interleukin-6 (IL-6), IL-10, tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α) and interferon-γ (...
متن کاملSuppression of Premature Ventricular Contractions by Acebutolol ALAN
The antiarrhythmic action of the beta-blocking drug, acebutolol, was evaluated in patients with frequent premature ventricular contractions (PVCs). In the 12 hours following administration of a single 300 mg oral dose, 8 of 10 patients showed a greater than 50% reduction in PVC frequency, and statistical analysis indicated that PVC reduction persisted for 10 hours after the single dose. Analysi...
متن کاملDetection and Classification of Heart Premature Contractions via α-Level Binary Neyman-Pearson Radius Test: A Comparative Study
The aim of this study is to introduce a new methodology for isolation of ectopic rhythms of ambulatory electrocardiogram (ECG) holter data via appropriate statistical analyses imposing reasonable computational burden. First, the events of the ECG signal are detected and delineated using a robust wavelet-based algorithm. Then, using Binary Neyman-Pearson Radius test, an appropriate classifie...
متن کاملAlpha adrenergic contributions to dysrhythmia during myocardial ischemia and reperfusion in cats.
Alpha compared to beta adrenergic contributions to dysrhythmias induced by left anterior descending coronary occlusion and by reperfusion were assessed in chloralose-anesthetized cats (n = 96). Alpha receptor blockade with either phentolamine or prazosin significantly reduced the number of premature ventricular complexes during coronary reperfusion (321 +/- 62-14 +/- 10 premature ventricular co...
